attempts at ]being literate[
- (i do not update this regularly, for better or worse)
- currently working through the critical Humanities in the Time of AI
- a big research driver for me was Invisible Women: Data Bias in a World Designed for Men
- i would also recommend The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks; the audiobook phenomenal
- it's similar to The Emperor of All Maladies but tells an important story and isn't afraid to criticize the historical failings of cancer research
- Mukherjee did a fantastic job with his followup, however, in The Gene: an Intimate History
- another read to transform your understanding of medicine is The Vagina Bible
- for scientific history, i find myself turning to both Painter's The History of White People and Yusoff's A Billion Black Anthropocenes or None
- if you're into math (or want to be) How to Think About Analysis is fantastic
- among my go-tos, i would list bell hooks, Angela Davis, Tamsyn Muir, Talia Bhatt, and Tracy Kidder, e.g. the classic throwback The Soul of a New Machine
- a past me quite enjoyed Nassim Taleb as well
